CAVUROUS
Souldrainer • Population 30,000
Hidden beneath the world in endless crystal caverns, Cavurous is a city of powerful rituals, living magic, dangerous artifacts, and haunting music echoing through the deep.
The Crystal Caverns

Deep beneath the surface lies one of the oldest and most mysterious places of power in the world — the crystal caverns of Cavurous.

Long before the Three Crises and even before the rise of Keridwyn, Elven explorers discovered a sprawling underground realm where enormous purple crystals coated entire cavern walls. The crystals naturally focused magical energy, causing currents of power to flow endlessly through the tunnels like invisible rivers.

The caverns changed everything within them. Creatures born in the depths developed crystalline growths across their bodies and displayed magical abilities unlike their surface-dwelling kin. Rituals performed within the caverns became dramatically more powerful, and artifacts forged there surpassed nearly anything created elsewhere in the world.

Many of the greatest magical relics still known today were crafted in the depths of Cavurous. Some scholars claim the caverns themselves are alive, slowly shaping magic and thought over centuries through forces no one fully understands.

The first inhabitants of Cavurous were secretive guardians who concealed the entrances to the caverns from the outside world. They studied the crystals, the beasts, and the strange magical effects in isolation for generations. Over centuries, their hidden research outpost grew into a thriving underground settlement.

When the expanding kingdom of Keridwyn eventually discovered Cavurous, the city negotiated secrecy in exchange for knowledge and artifact trade. Communicators were created for each major city so orders could be placed remotely without revealing the cavern entrances. Trade brought prosperity to Cavurous and transformed the once-isolated settlement into one of the wealthiest magical centers in existence.

Yet trade also brought rumors. Stories spread of crystal beasts, impossible music, and artifacts capable of terrifying destruction. Decades before Keridwyn’s gates closed, the location of Cavurous became known beyond trusted circles.

Another discovery transformed the city forever. The crystal caverns possessed extraordinary acoustic properties. Music and performance carried through the tunnels with breathtaking clarity and emotional intensity. Artists, musicians, and playwrights flocked to Cavurous from every corner of the kingdom. Some symphonies became so intertwined with the caverns that they are said to lose their meaning when performed anywhere else.

After Keridwyn collapsed, oversight of artifact trade vanished with it. Cities accused Cavurous of greed, manipulation, and withholding magical weapons. Smuggling increased. Guides vanished in the tunnels. Trade routes became battlegrounds. Before long, Cavurous found itself isolated, distrusted, and surrounded by enemies eager to seize the city’s secrets.

Despite the danger, the artistic spirit of Cavurous endured. Music constantly drifts through the glowing halls while performers gather in underground amphitheaters carved directly into crystal walls. The city is governed by a council of elders descended from the original founders. Their authority is absolute when exercised, though they prefer minimal interference in daily life. Smuggling, however, remains a constant war fought in shadows beneath the music.

Heroes of Cavurous
ANATOLIOUS
Inferno
Fire Materia • Shimmer

Fire dances constantly across Anatolious’ coal-black body. Even among Fire Materia, his command over flame is exceptional, violent, and difficult to control. Heat radiates from him like a living furnace.

Born beneath the peaceful branches of the World Tree, Anatolious never felt he belonged among its calm and harmonious people. His destructive talents had little place within a society built on balance and serenity, while his skill outside elemental magic remained painfully lacking.

Everything changed after a catastrophic accident in his youth. A careless burst of magic consumed several homes in flame and permanently scarred one of the World Tree’s great limbs. After weeks of debate, the community decided he must leave.

Resentment replaced the fragile peace he once carried. Wandering eventually led him to Cavurous, where his destructive abilities finally had purpose. As part of the city guard, he became infamous for annihilating the crystal beasts and tunnel horrors threatening the trade routes.

Yet Anatolious’ greatest threat was often his temper. Arguments with officers and fellow guards became common, and his captains constantly struggled to restrain his fury. Most guards would have been dismissed long ago, but Anatolious was too valuable to lose. Instead, he was promoted to command the sentries protecting Cavurous’ outer tunnels, where his rage could be directed toward monsters and invaders instead of allies.

“If the world fears fire, perhaps it should stop giving me reasons to burn.”
GILSEW
Still Around
Shade Ghost

Long before Keridwyn rose to power, a dark Elven ritualist commanded five Shade servants bound to daggers carved from ancient bone. Their names were erased from history. Only Gilsew remembers.

Bound against her will, Gilsew served as an assassin and living terror used to manipulate kingdoms from the shadows. When her master was finally slain, the cursed daggers were hunted down and destroyed — all except one.

Upon her death, Gilsew’s soul failed to pass on. The surviving dagger anchored her spirit to the Material Realm, trapping her within the tunnels surrounding Cavurous. For years she haunted the caverns, draining magical energy from careless spellcasters who drew too deeply on necrotic power.

After Cavurous was absorbed into Keridwyn, a priest was sent to calm the restless spirit. Through faith and powerful magic, the priest helped Gilsew reclaim fragments of her lost memories and identity. Yet without destroying the hidden dagger, her soul remained trapped.

Over time, Gilsew became something unexpected: a guardian of Cavurous. She hides her true identity behind shifting appearances while secretly guiding events throughout the city using the countless secrets she has gathered over centuries. Though her strength fades away from the deep tunnels, she still fights fiercely to protect the city she now calls home.

“Death was supposed to be the difficult part.”
