To play the game, players take turns making choices until the game ends, with each choice causing effects to occur. If part of an effect is prevented for any reason, simply skip that part while the rest of the effect still apply if possible.
Effects
Everything that happens during the game has a chance to trigger effects from creatures. If there is a choice to make for a Wild, Defender, or Defender Support, the Turn Player makes that choice.
The face down Wild cannot be chosen or affected in any way unless the effect specifies it affects the face down Wild. As a creature is turned face down for any reason, turn the face down Wild face up at the same time.
After each action and effect, each of the following events occur in order:
- Trigger any applicable Possessed effect from each Possessed, beginning with the Turn Player and continuing in turn order
- Each face up Wild triggers any applicable Wild effects clockwise from the face down Wild
- The Defender triggers any applicable Defender effect from themself
- The Defender triggers any applicable Defender effect from the Defender Support
Each of these may also cause other effects to trigger in the same way. When they do, complete the intial effect, then complete each triggered effect in the order they were triggered.
If a creature has already escaped, been replaced, or turned face down at the time their effect would occur, that effect does not occur. If a creatue is triggered while waiting for their effect to complete, the new trigger replaces the pending trigger.
Creatures Escaping
If at any point the damage on a Possessed or face up Wild equals or exceeds their Endure, they escape and are replaced. You may choose to use a card from your hand to replace your Possessed instead of taking from the deck.
If your Possessed or a Wild escapes and there are no cards in the deck to replace them, instead replace them with a card from your hand, placing your Possessed before any Wilds. If you cannot, you are removed from the game.
If a Wild has not been replaced, then the next player must immediately replace them with a card from their hand, and if they cannot, they are removed from the game, continuing until a new Wild is placed or no players remain.
Actions
There are 3 actions that every creature can use: Attack, Command, and Soothe.
- Attack: The creature deals damage equal to their Might to the Defender. Then the Defender deals damage equal to their Might to the attacker.
- Command: Choose 2 adjacent face up Wilds and have them trade places.
- Soothe: The creature heals themself or a Wild damage equal to their Nurture. The defender heals damage equal to their Nurture.
The Turn
On your turn, complete these 4 phases in order: Draw, Play, Action, and Swap.
Draw Phase
If you have less than 3 cards in your hand, you may draw 1 card from the deck to your hand.
Play Phase
If you have any cards in your hand, you may play 1 card from your hand by choosing Defender Support, a face up Wild, or your Possessed. Replace the card in that position with a card from your hand.
Action Phase
Your Possessed creature uses an action of your choice.
Swap Phase
Either discard 1 card from your hand or your Possessed trades places with a Wild who is not adjacent to the face down Wild, then turn them face down.
